Magic Leap

The Magic Leap One was the first portable augmented reality headset by Magic Leap.
We managed to get a hold of one, try it out and shoot some pictures.

The Magic Leap (one) was released in August 2018, following an announcement in December 2017. It is the company’s 1st AR headset release.

Augmented Reality is a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, thus providing a composite view. Virtual Reality is considered to be completely submersive, with no direct interaction with the real world.

This headset:

  • is standalone and does not require a PC to use.
  • has a high refresh rate of 122 Hz
  •  has a high horizontal field of view of 40°
  • does not require external base stations
  • can only be purchased with a single 6DoF controller
  • is driven by a separate computing unit, worn by the user’s side (see pictures)

A few pictures were published on Unsplash and were viewed and used millions of times.
I’ve even been tagged on LinkedIn posts and articles.
